Woyzeck & Words of Advice

-
Production Company:

Woyzeck by Georg Buchner

Roll up, roll up ladies and gentlemen, for three nights only we have gathered together the strangest collection of characters ever assembled on the same stage.  Come and see the man who wants to talk to toadstools, the man who thinks the world is hollow and inhabited by freemasons.  A man, ladies and gentlemen, who hears voices telling him that he must kill his wife. Come and see the doctor whose experiments include feeding a man on peas for three months.  Come and see the unfaithful wife and the army captain who bursts into tears at the sight of a coat.

Words of Advice by Fay Weldon

'Take a mistress, my boy, only don't be too secretive about it'.

'Nothing like a show of independence to bring a man to heal'.

'Cherchez la femme, child, but don't 'cherchez' too hard'.

If your marriage is breaking up, you turn to relatives for words of advice; you may end up just having words.  Fay Weldon's penetrating play of the seventies combines an awareness of rising feminism with insight into the pressures - and pleasures - of family life.
