Wild Oats
This delightful comedy of 1792, written by one of the many Irish playwrights whose works have graced the English stage, lay unjustly neglected for well over a century until the RSC 'rediscovered' it in 1976.
It's plot tells how Rover, the star of a troupe of itinerant actors, impersonates his friend Harry Thunder and presents himself as suitor to Harry's beautiful Quaker cousin. Hot in pursuit of his supposedly wayward son comes Sir George Thunder himself, a retired naval officer with an inflammatory temper. Many other characters in the play's large cast add to the hilarious series of crises that ensue from mistaken identity.
