The Waltz of the Toreadors

The play centres around the General - old, vain, but still desperately playing the gallant, if only to a succession of chambermaids passing through his house in a provincial garrison back-water.  While upstairs, Madame, surrounded by medicines, ceaselessly berates her husband for the lost love they once knew.  Into this situation comes the General's secret inamorato of many years, to offer a last chance of the romance he dreams of.  What happens next makes for a play full of humour and pathos, wit and sensitivity, for which the writer is famous.
