Waiting in the Wings
The Wings is a small charity home for retired actresses. It differs from other organisations of its kind in that it provides only for those who have been stars or leading ladies and who, through age, lack of providence, misfortune etc, have been reduced to poverty. On a June afternoon, the once great actress Lotta Bainbridge arrives. Years ago she married the ex-husband of one of the inmates, Mary Davenport, and her arrival renews a feud which has been smouldering for half a century, but now involving the entire home.
Coward said of this play - " it contains the basic truth that old age needn't be nearly so dreary and sad as it is supposed to be, provided you greet it with humour and live it with courage."
