The Taming of the Shrew
Shakespeare's famous comedy which everybody knows of - or, at least, has heart about! In essence, it could not be simpler. Two young men meet, fall in love with and eventually marry two young women. Fine - but one of the women is sweet-tempered - the other is a 'shrew'!
The manner of the wooing and the sub-plots which entwine this main story are a delight to watch. Built up around the old idea that the wife is the property of the husband and, as such, is subject to his will, and with such skilful characterisation, particularly of the two contending characters, Petruchio and Katharina, it cannot fail to provide an evening's entertainment of high delight.
