Table Manners

The is the first play in the trilogy called The Norman Conquests with which Alan Ayckbourn has enjoyed such great success on the large stage and the small screen as well.

It has absolutely nothing to do with 1066 and all that.  The action centres around a lovable or hateable (seemingly the assessment differs according to one's sex!) 'Norman'.  It takes place when he wreaks effortless havoc with the usual place and calm at one disastrous weekend at 'Mother's'.  The play weaves an intricate web around slightly absurd characters who are still close enough to reality to be a mirror for us all.
