Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Taking the fascinating idea that every exit on-stage is an entrance to somewhere else, we are shown what is happening to the minor characters of Shakespeare's Hamlet, while the main characters act out their tragedy on some other stage. The result is the unique presentation of an hilarious comedy that is, at times, profoundly moving. In the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, Stoppard has created a comic double-act which rivals many of the great comic partnerships of the past, yet who speak for all 'little people' bound up in events beyond their control.
