Romeo and Juliet
"Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene".
With those lines, Shakespeare embarks on what was to prove one of his most famous plays. In this production, dressed in late 15th century costume, we want to return to the spirit of the presentation as it might have been in Shakespeare's day, minus the 18th century embellishments, which have done much to distort the original. The test and its understanding to a modern audience is what is vital to a Shakespearean production, and I hope we shall achieve this. It is a story of young love and external forces over which they have no control - "a Greater Power than we can contradict" says Friar Laurence.
