The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists
Adapted from the novel written by Robert Tressell
Tressell's original novel presents social criticism and biting satire through some wonderful comic characters and some powerfully moving situations. Stephen Lowe's adaptation is both true to the original and yet manages to make some strikingly modern connections. Not only do we see the characters at work, but also at play. The work involved is on the house of a local 'dignatory' in the imaginary town of Mugsborough in the year 1906, where this group of painters and decorators are occupied.
