Pygmalion
Pygmalion is Shaw's comic masterpiece and is famously the inspiration for the musical My Fair Lady. Set in London, it follows the transformation of Eliza Doolittle from Covent Garden flower-girl into society lady under the strict tutelage of Professor Higgins. Shaw always insisted that it was a romance; his characters endeavour to prove him wrong.
