The National Health
This very amusing 'dig' at life in a hospital was produced for the first time in 1969, playing to capacity houses at the National Theatre at the Old Vic.
The play is made up of basically two stories, the one concerning Nurse Norton's affair with one of the hospital staff, and the other is the general life inside the hospital with its comedies and pitfalls; the pathos and the lighter side of this walk of life are strongly contrasted and eloquently describe the workings of the everyday hospital ward.
