Merrymount
We are pleased to present the world premiere of a new play by Paul D'Andrea, set in Massachusetts at the plantation of one Thomas Morton and in a clearing of the omnipresent forest.
The Plymouth Brethren, jealous of Morton's success as a farmer and fearing his collaboration with the Indians and indulgence in 'pagan rites', wish to suppress the May Day festival. Their fear of the 'primitive', the unknown, is centred on one Edith Oldys and her mysterious powers. Her dancing bewitches even the Indians - her presence bewitches all.
