The play Madame de.. is the Jean Anouilh's dramatic version of Louise de Vilmorin's novel. The French play was translated into English by John Whiting.  The theme of the play Madame de.. is the protagonist's quest for happiness which is ruined by a moral flaw which springs from his own character. In this play the heroine Madame de has a weakness and bravado to pretend. Her husband is equally guilty of humouring her and concealing his own love affairs.
