Love All 2000

-
Production Company:

This production, a celebration of the Millennium, is a light-hearted look at love and marriage as portrayed in music and drama over the last thousand years.  We start, though, with the Roman Plautus as adapted by Sondheim in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.  We then laugh on with henpecked Noah and his Wife before cantering off to Canterbury with Chaucer's pilgrims.  Shakespeare's Titania then falls in love with the assinine Bottom and Restoration Drama introduces us to The Way of the World, which gives way to The Beggars' Opera whose satire and folk songs send you off to the bar to 'drain ev'ry glass'!

After the interval, you may be shocked by Victorian Melodrama, revived by Gilbert and Sullivan, enthralled by the wit of G.B. Shaw in My Fair Lady, drink Tea for Two and be dazzled by silent movies from Mack and Mabel.  Alan Bennett gives us sixties sex in Habeus Corpus, Stoppard gives us romance between men and Jimmy Chinn brings us up to date with an uproarious spoof on today's TV soaps in a skit called Stenderdale Street.
