Hughie

Hughie is set in the summer of 1928 between 3.00 and 4.00 am in the dingy lobby of a third-rate hotel in midtown New York City.  Written in 1940, between his crowning achievements The Iceman Cometh and Long Day's Journey Into Night, it was part of a projected cycle of six one-act plays, to be collectively entitled By Way of Orbit, of which Hughie was the only one fully completed.
