Escorial & A Phoenix too Frequent
Escorial by Michel de Ghelderode
A king, who is obviously quite insane, is playing a cat-and-mouse game of words with his Court Jester, whom he believes is seducing the Queen. The natural sequence of events leads to the jester's inevitable end, and thus the play is given an amusing if not unusual story line.
A Phoenix too Frequent by Christopher Fry
This is a romantic comedy about a woman, who at the beginning of the story is mourning her dead husband. A man appears and, after talking to her for a while, finds he is in love with her. The woman's maid completes the trio with a delightful natural humour and ideally complements this touching and at times witty story.
