Equus
This magnificent play, ever since its first performance at the National Theatre in 1973, has received wide acclaim and has been made into a first-class film.
It is based on the bald fact of an apprentice stable lad who blinded the horses under his care with a metal spike. Shaffer sets out in his imagination to explore the crime, the possible reasons why it happened and its psychological reverberations.
