An Englishman Abroad & Antigone
An Englishman Abroad by Alan Bennett
Based on a real-life incident when Coral Browne, the actress, went to Moscow with the RSC and met the traitor Guy Burgess. As usual, Alan Bennett's writing is sharply observant and he obviously relishes the irony that Burgess who loathed a certain type of Englishness ended his pathetic, drunken exile with the sort of gallantry one associates with a certain type of English gentleman.
Antigone by Sophocles
Antigone, a daughter of Oedipus by his mother Jocasta, buried her brother Polynices, against the orders of Creon. What follows is one of the most enduring of Greek tragedies. The play will be set in the present day Middle East to give relevance to the themes of power politics, the individual and the state, morality, guilt, taboos and prophesy.
