Dr. Angelus
The protagonist of James Bridie’s play seems like a charismatic, if slightly eccentric, general practitioner. But this psychological thriller is a story of manipulation, where all is not quite as it seems. Set in Glasgow in 1920, the enigmatic Dr. Angelus has hired a new partner, the young George Johnson. Angelus asks his new partner if he will take over the care of his mother-in-law who has a gastric complaint. Johnson is warned to beware of Angelus, but scorns the gossip - so when his mother-in-law takes a turn for the worse, and Mrs Angelus taken ill with a similar complaint, he begins to fear he will be mistaken as an accessory to Angelus' wicked plans.
