Confusions

A play in a day!  This series of four short plays comes under the title Confusions and perfectly shows Ayckbourn's skill at unpicking the human psyche.  In the first play, Mother Figure, a woman left alone with her child has become a permanent projection of a mother and lost herself as a woman.  We then see her husband in Drinking Companions desperate to escape his domestic situation and meet a younger woman.  In Between Mouthfuls we hear what the waiter hears in a restaurant as the relationships of the two couples are on the verge of breakdown.  Lastly, in Talk in the Park, five people have escaped outside for some peace, but are interrupted by each other's problems.
