The Children's Hour
The Children's Hour tells the most dramatic and moving story of two women who run a school for girls. A malicious youngster starts an entirely unfounded scandal about them which precipitates tragedy for the women. Later it is discovered that the gossip was pure invention but by that time, irreparable damage had been caused. The play was inspired by the story of a scandal in Edinburgh in 1809 which Lillian Hellman had been reading.
