The Diamond Princess
Laughter is always a good tonic for 'the blues'. And the pantomime form, perhaps more than other forms of comedy in theatre, provides a particularly healthy tonic because of its unsophisticated means of providing laughter. There is nothing subtle about a pantomime, so The Diamond Princess fits well into this category. There is nothing sophisticated either about pantomime stories. Various settings are provided for the sad princess or poor little downtrodden waif who is saved from the clutches of an evil wizard, witch, spider etc by a dashing prince or lower class cheeky chappy, and all ending 'happily ever after' with bells a-ringing and the stage bedazzled with colour and glitter.
