A presentation by the director, Ian Kinane

A wedding. A free bar. A blast from the past. G and Kayla's lives are a mess but tonight they're determined to Have It Large.  As their veins course with adrenaline and cheap prosecco, we follow them on an epic journey through thirty years of pop. Can the DJ save them as they become Dancing Queens, reliving their Teenage Dream, Staying Out For The Summer, and Spicing Up Their Lives? Pop makes promises it can't keep, and soon they'll discover they have more in common than their taste in tunes.

A rollercoaster ride of a play from award-winning Anna Jordan (a writer on Succession and Killing Eve), the original 2018 tour wowed the country, including Latitude Festival. 'Funny and true... a crowd-pleaser” The Guardian

From the Director:

I’m delighted to be bringing Anna Jordan’s frenetic and nostalgia-fuelled mini masterpiece to Teddington Theatre Club.  Pre-production is already well underway, and we’ve got a fantastic team, nearly all of whom worked with me last year on Abigail’s Party and are back for another turn on the decks!

Pop Music is an intense (but fun!) two-hander, and for the two main characters, Kayla and G, I’m looking for committed performers in the mid-20s to mid-30s age range with good chemistry. There will be a bit of dancing and singing, but proficiency in either is not necessarily a requirement. As it’s a two-hander, both actors will be called to every rehearsal (likely 2-3 times a week; usually Tuesday, Thursday, and a weekend morning or afternoon). As such, auditionees who are not already in another show will be given preference.

Character Profiles in Miniature

Kayla:    Feisty, flirty, flighty. Maybe a bit messy. Loves dancing and a cheeky bottle (or two), but not necessarily her husband. Probably 'that girl' in school. Lost her ambition a while back. Overcompensates by listening to Kesha and Rihanna on loud.

G:    Musical, mellow, morose. Remembers Kayla from school (unfortunately). Likes Chaka Khan’s "Ain’t Nobody" but not A-ha’s "Take On Me", for some reason (doesn’t want to talk about it). Someone who is drawn out of himself by music, inexorably.

TTC has a totally open audition policy and we enjoy meeting new people.  You don't have to be a TTC member to attend the reading and audition - and if you aren't available for the audition date, don't worry - you can still audition. If cast, will then be required to join as a Full Member.
