The cherry trees are blooming, the debts are rising, and a once-grand estate stands on the edge of ruin. As the world shifts beneath them, an aristocratic family clings to memories, keeping up appearances, and a fading past — while outside, the future is already knocking.
In this gripping, funny version of Chekhov’s comedy, the timeless clash between progress and nostalgia is brought into sharp focus. Set in a world that feels all too familiar — economically unstable, emotionally fraught, and painfully divided.
Performed in the round, this intimate yet epic production pulls you into the centre of the action. Expect laughter, heartbreak, and the unmistakable sound of change.
Full details, including a list of characters, to follow.
Play readings are not just for prospective actors, but for anyone who would like to join in reading the play – or just listen to it being read. The readings are informal social occasions when the bar is open - we enjoy meeting new people and welcoming them to our club. There is no obligation to audition for the play or even to read – and there’s no need to book, just turn up!
